Nonprofits led by communities of color face significant challenges that can’t be solved by traditional capacity building.
One-time grants or projects are not the answer, as our community (to say nothing of the political climate) is constantly changing and shifting, requiring the organizations to follow suit. These dynamic grassroots organizations need ongoing solutions customized to their structure, community, and budget.
They need ongoing, adaptive support that helps move them forward. They need culturally-relevant coaching from someone who understands the unique needs of their organization and community. As part of our Alliance, that’s exactly what we are doing.
When we launched our Community Alliance, we decided to bring on a staff person who is entirely dedicated to our members and community. This person, available to all of our members, provides culturally-responsive coaching, organizational assessments, customization of capacity building plans, and consulting support for our partners based on their organizational needs.
Some coaching services include:
- Mentorship and connections to resources relevant to leaders of small grassroots nonprofits, advising on areas such as planning for the future, board relations, fundraising, advocacy, leadership development, and evaluation
- Culturally-responsive, customized executive coaching, adjusted to fit different leadership styles, with an emphasis on continuous learning and action-planning
- Customized organizational development plans that align with their culture, financial structure, priorities, and challenges. These plans are built to include short-term work plans and long-term strategic direction setting
- Cohort-based co-learning, peer mentoring, and relationship building
